St. Maarten / St. Martin

St. Maarten / St. Martin. The island is the smallest in the world ever to have been shared between two different nations – Holland and France – and for over 350 years. Each side has managed to retain much of the distinctiveness of its own national culture. On the French side, St. Martin, there are 37 different beaches to choose from. We have enjoyed beach at St MaartenOyster Pond, Mullet Bay, Simpson Bay and Orient Beach to name a few.  The beaches on the French side tend to be more secluded and more conducive to quiet contemplation and tranquility.

The Marigot Market, set up along the Wharves on the Blvd de France and open for business every Wednesday and Saturday morning, offers a colorful array of homegrown produce, tropical fruits and spices. Island attractions include the Carib Isle Plantation where a working watermelon plantation presents the history and beauty of the fruit, and the St. Martin Butterfly Farm. At the farm, the family can walk amongst rare and exotic butterflies from around the world.

Treetop Adventure Park is an exhilarating traverse course with a variety of zip-lines suspended high above the private forest reserve soaring through 200 year old mango (fruit) and mahogany trees. The attraction includes a special area with suspended bridges, swinging ropes and more for children. Miles of well-groomed hiking trails and the “Hidden Forest Café” complete the travel experience.

Caution: Orient Beach is a clothes optional beach.
